PFAS free cooler bag for EU food contact
Your Compliant Partner for Delivery Bags, Food Delivery Bags, and Insulated Solutions
Effective 12 August 2026, the EU Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR) (EU) 2025/40 mandates strict PFAS limits for all food-contact packaging placed on the EU market. For procurement managers sourcing a PFAS-free cooler bag for EU food contact, the supplier must deliver not only thermal performance but also lab-verified compliance documentation—without which shipments face border rejection or market wihdrawal.
PFAS Requirements Under PPWR – What "PFAS-Free" Means
Under PPWR Article 5, from 12 August 2026, all food-contact packaging must meet three PFAS thresholds:
| Requirement | Limit |
|---|---|
| Any individual target PFAS substance (non-polymeric) | < 25 ppb |
| Sum of all target PFAS substances (non-polymeric) | < 250 ppb |
| Total PFAS (including polymeric forms) | < 50 ppm |
If total fluorine exceeds 50 mg/kg, manufacturers must provide proof indicating whether the fluorine is PFAS or non-PFAS. The restriction applies to all newly placed packaging after the effective date—no inventory transition period is allowed.
